Course Overview
Chemistry for Beginners is a structured and engaging online foundation course designed for students who are new to Chemistry, transitioning into secondary-school Chemistry, or struggling with basic concepts. The programme takes learners step-by-step from the fundamentals of matter and atoms to chemical reactions, calculations, acids and bases, organic chemistry and practical Chemistry. The course combines clear explanations, visual learning, guided calculations, demonstrations, practical applications and examination-style questions to help students develop genuine understanding rather than relying on memorisation. Key Areas Students Will Explore •Matter & Its Properties — elements, compounds, mixtures and physical/chemical changes. •Atoms & Atomic Structure — protons, neutrons, electrons, isotopes and electronic configuration. •The Periodic Table — groups, periods, periodic trends and properties of elements. •Chemical Bonding — ionic, covalent and metallic bonding and their properties. •Chemical Formulae & Equations — writing, balancing and interpreting chemical equations. •Mole Concept & Chemical Calculations — relative atomic mass, molar mass, moles and quantitative problems. •Acids, Bases & Salts — properties, indicators, pH, neutralisation and salt formation. •Separation Techniques — filtration, distillation, crystallisation, chromatography and related applications. •Energy & Chemical Reactions — exothermic and endothermic reactions. •Rates of Reaction — factors affecting reaction rates and collision theory. •Air, Water & Environmental Chemistry — composition, properties, pollution and purification. •Introduction to Organic Chemistry — hydrocarbons, homologous series and basic functional groups. •Practical Chemistry Skills — laboratory safety, observations, measurements and interpretation of simple experiments. Students won't just memorise definitions and equations. They will learn to: - Understand Chemistry concepts from first principles. - Explain chemical processes clearly and logically. - Perform Chemistry calculations step-by-step. - Write and balance chemical equations correctly. - Interpret diagrams, tables, graphs and experimental observations. - Connect Chemistry to everyday life and real-world applications. - Develop confidence in tackling examination-style questions. By the end of the programme, students will have a strong foundation in Chemistry, improved scientific reasoning and greater confidence in solving both conceptual and numerical problems. The course provides an excellent foundation for progressing to WAEC, NECO, UTME, IGCSE, Checkpoint and other secondary-school Chemistry programmes. Ideal for: - Students who are new to Chemistry - Students transitioning into secondary-school Chemistry - Learners who need to strengthen weak Chemistry foundations - Students preparing for more advanced Chemistry courses - Beginners preparing to eventually tackle WAEC, NECO, UTME, IGCSE or Checkpoint Chemistry
